SCAM CALLERS IMPERSONATING POLICE

Gloucestershire Constabulary are warning residents of scammers targeting Gloucestershire with fraudulent phone calls over recent days, and this scam now has entered South Derbyshire area.

The scammers entice victims into handing over money after telling the victim over the phone , that one of their family members has been arrested and is in possession of their cloned bank card and that the money should be transfered to keep safe.

The victim was told to call 161 or another false number to get a crime reference number before being transferred back to the scammer. Money was withdrawn and handed over to a courier on three occasions, with the victim losing a combined total of £18, 500.

There has been several incidents reported in South Derbyshire but fortunately no money has been exchanged.

Due to elderly people being targeted please share with relatives and neighbours who may not be aware or have social media accounts.
